HOW TO TEACH CHILDREN ABOUT SEX

Parents think teachers are better equipped to handle the subjects while teachers think parents should take the responsibility off an already burdened education system.

So, how to teach children about sex?

Teach girls to dress respectfully and teach boys no matter how provocative a girl dresses, it doesn’t justify harassment or assault.

Teach girls to be fun and friendly without being seductive or lascivious.

Teach boys that they are responsible to protect others, not to exploit them.

Teach boys that while dating and upon reaching puberty, the urge to explore or give in to sexual temptation will be strong but they must find ways to overcome it.

Advice children not to use sex or sexuality to curry favours or become popular. Teach them to build confidence and self esteem through other self empowering methods.

Teach your children to recognise situations that may lead to sexual molest or assault. Inform them the dangers of strangers touching them unnecessarily or inappropriately.

Explain to them why even light petting may lead to sex and what the consequences are.

Always be objective and nurturing to your child’s sense of curiosity. If he comes to you with a question on sex, do not jump to the conclusion that he is waiting to engage in sexual activity.

Act calm and mature when it comes to discussing about sex instead of treating sex like a dirty subject that is not to be discussed at all.

If unable to answer immediately, tell them you will find out moe and get back to them once you are clearer. This gives you time to answer logically and rationally.

If still squeamish, surf the internet together with your child to find out the answers. You too will learn something about the matter at hand and use the somputer screen to illustrate what needs to be explained.

Teach your children that sex is best reserved for after marriage and that it is a sacred and beautiful thing that bonds two people in love-emotionally, phychologically and spiritually.  (Source : Gorgeous)
